German automaker Porsche is ensuring its development as the leading provider of digital mobility solutions with a new hire and subsidiary company.

Porsche’s supervisory board has approved the founding of Porsche Digital GmnH to further enhance the automaker’s digital mobility solutions in its sector. Leading the endeavor will be Thilo Koslowski as managing director, who joined Porsche from Gartner Inc., a United States IT consulting firm.

Spirit and power
The Porsche Digital DmbH will be headquartered in Ludwigsburg, Germany, with affiliate branches in Silicon Valley, CA and China.

Serving as the automaker’s Competence Center, “where visions are turned into reality,” Porsche will focus on digital customer experiences, products, business areas and business processes. The company will work closely with all Porsche departments in testing and implementing new value creation models and innovative products.

A primary task will include the identification and evaluation of trends and relevant technologies. The automaker considers the Porsche Digital GmbH as an interface between the brand and global innovators.

Going forward, the new subsidiary will promote long-term collaborations with suitable partners to create a digital ecosystem. In the future, Porsche plans for equity holdings in venture capital funds, start-ups and high-growth companies, talents and new technologies.

“Digitization is leading to the renaissance of the automobile and is making it the central element of our digital lifestyle,” said Mr. Koslowski in a statement. “We will create digital customer experiences typical of Porsche which are fascinating and intelligent — both inside and outside the vehicle.”

One such innovation Porsche currently has in the works is the Mission E, which debuted as a concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The model will be 100 percent electrically powered and will launch at the end of the decade.

Environmental concerns are growing among consumers, and the Mission E is Porsche’s first step in blending its heritage with contemporary concerns (see story).
